By signing your kids up for sailing courses, adults will be able to enjoy their well-deserved vacation and take advantage of the many activities Garda Trentino has to offer, while their little ones will never want to go home again! But here, specifically, are the possibilities to choose from:
COURSE FOR YOUNG CHILDREN (6-10 years old)
The best way to learn how to sail is to do it through play. Through a series of group activities specially designed to promote motor skill development and socialisation, instructors will guide children to discover the basics of sailing. In fact, young kids who want to learn how to sail don’t need any experience, just a minimum of confidence on the water.
All the practical aspects of sailing a boat are covered in a simple, intuitive and practical way. The programme includes learning about points of sail, luffing and bearing away, tacking and gybing. Students will also get to know the boat’s rigging, the main knots, and learn basic exit and re-entry manoeuvres.
On the theoretical side, they will learn how the sails operate, the behaviour of the hull, the basic nomenclature, safety rules, and rules of precedence. Explanations will also be given on winds and speeds, and basic weather concepts.
The goal of this course is, precisely, to provide young people with the knowledge to independently sail a boat, in “normal” weather conditions and under the supervision of an instructor.
Weekly courses are held (Monday to Friday) on single boats (Optimist class); you can sign up from 8:30 a.m. and the course runs from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (lunch included). A new course starts every Monday, and the instructors will assess students in order to form groups with the same skill levels.
MASTER CLASS
For those who wish to improve their technique, advanced courses are also available aimed at all those who have already taken the Basic Course, or who in any case know how to sail a boat independently under the supervision of the instructor.
In addition to the usual basics, in this course students will learn how to adjust the sails more precisely, manoeuvre a boat even in more challenging weather conditions, hoist and lower a spinnaker or jennaker, and change or reduce sails while sailing.
From a theoretical point of view, the topics covered during the Basic Course are also taken up, going into greater detail, in line with the practical teaching.
The goal of this course is to make the children more independent and safe when going out on the water.
COURSE FOR OLDER CHILDREN (10-16 years old)
Weekly half-day courses (always from Monday to Friday) on multiple boats (FEVA and J80) are held for 10 to 16 year olds: the times are from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., or from 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. (courses will be activated with a minimum of 4 participants).
Those who have never taken a sailing course will, through a progression of theoretical and practical lessons, have the opportunity to learn how to steer a small boat independently.
