Lake Garda - Sport & outdoor
The scenic path that connects the town of Busatte to that of Tempesta, on the eastern coast of the lake, is one of the most famous excursions in the North Lake Garda area.
What makes this walk so special are certainly the breathtaking views that can be enjoyed along the entire way, but also the peculiar shape of the path, suspended over the water for the most part. Follow us along its 400 steps!
The trail starts in Busatte, in the Municipality of Nago-Torbole. To get there, you must follow the signs for the Adventure Park (we will talk about it later). There, you’ll find a convenient free car park where you can leave your car.
After a first short uphill stretch in the middle of the nature, the path reaches the edge of the mountain, immediately offering amazing views of the entire Garda Trentino and Monte Brione.
In just over an hour, the path ends in Tempesta. There, you can retrace your steps along the same route, or use the forest road that runs parallel, a little higher. It must be said, the road is a little more sheltered and perhaps less impressive than the walkways overlooking the water, but it is certainly more shaded, wider and more comfortable to walk.
Our advice is to follow a loop-shaped itinerary, hiking on the walkways on the way out and using the dirt road on the way back.
The main feature of the Busatte – Tempesta path is that it runs, for most of its length, on walkways and ladders suspended over the water.
Looking down, through the mesh of the steps, you will be able to see the waves of the lake crashing onto the rocks. Along the way, you’ll find both flat sections and metal stairs. To be precise, there are about 400 steps.
However, the view is so beautiful, that you will often stop to admire the scenery and won’t feel tired. In summer, remember that the path is very sunny, especially in the afternoon.
Stairs and walkways are always protected by railings and balustrades. Therefore, older children are completely safe – indeed, it will be fun for them to venture along the path. On the other hand, if you have small children, make sure you watch them closely to make sure they do not hang out over the railings or fall down the stairs.
Given the number of steps, but also of fairly narrow sections, we strongly advise against tackling the Busatte-Tempesta with strollers or prams.
Before walking the path, or afterwards, we recommend taking a break at Parco Busatte and at Busatte Adventure. The two areas are close to each other and are located right at the start of the excursion we just described.
You will find a play area and a bar-restaurant, as well as 50 aerial paths between 2 and 15 meters high, a new BMX track approved for national competitions, and a basketball-volleyball court. You don’t need anything else for a day of fun!
